Who we are
Makers Ekklesia Dance Co. was founded in 2018 to provide Knoxville, TN with an encouraging, loving and educational dance studio. We believe in practicing excellence in our craft as well as practicing dance as an expression of worship. God created each of us with unique giftings, and dance is such a fun way to express the love of God!
Makers was established so that all could have a place to be free, create and worship in movement. We are passionate about using dance to glorify God and show his love to others.
All of our classes are based in technique and love. We are proud to be a part of the More Than Just Great Dancing network!
THE ORIGIN OF OUR NAME
Ekklesia is a Greek term used in the New Testament of the Bible often to describe the church, or “the called out ones.” We have been called out by our Maker to follow Him and make Him known. We were made in the Maker’s image as well. Thus, we were created to create! We are His Ekklesia, sent out into the world to create. We are the Makers as well as the Maker’s.
Our founder, Jennifer Blessing, started dancing in 1995 and has been teaching for over 15 years! She has studied ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, lyrical, contemporary and modern in her dance career while dancing in a company throughout her time in high school. She went on to dance in college and direct Company AbunDance, dance in Chara Dance Company, Talitha Dance Company and then was the Artistic Director for the Knoxville Dance Project after moving to TN in 2012. She is a wife and mother to two little girls.
Lauren Bock has studied danced for 19 years. She is currently a senior at the University of Tennessee and is working towards her Bachelors degree in Psychology. She has lived and danced in Knoxville her whole life. She has studied Ballet, Jazz, tap, modern, lyrical, contemporary and hip-hop. Lauren was a member of the Tennessee Children’s Dance Ensemble when she was 10 years old, and through that opportunity was able to work with many choreographers such as Randy Duncan and others from New York and Chicago. Dance has shaped her into who she is today and has taught her many life skills. She is excited to share h love and passion of dance with you and give you a space to create, express and grow in your love of dance.
Lauren Beck has been dancing since the age of 3. By the age of 17 she was teaching her own classes. Lauren is trained in ballet, tap, jazz and pointe. She is passionate about dance and believes it to be a large part of who she has become today. Lauren believes dance has taught her discipline, the ability to work with others, determination, hard work and has given her an outlet to express her feelings and thoughts in a healthy way. Teaching dance to others and passing on her love of this art is one of Lauren’s favorite things to do in life. She is very excited to join the team at Maker’s Ekklesia and teach ballet and tap to precious little dancers!
Our classes are currently held in Street Beatz Studios, located at 1023 Summerwood Drive, Knoxville, TN
